2. Who should you talk to if you think your child needs extra help or support?

If you bring your child to school or can come to the school, your child’s class teacher will probably be the best first point of contact. Please make an arrangement to talk to them about your concern.  The start of the school day may not be a ‘good’ time and you may want to speak somewhere more private than the classroom, so just arrange a time and place with the teacher to suit you both. If you cannot come to school, you can ring the school and speak to the office staff to arrange an appointment with your child's class teacher (which could be in person or by telephone if you prefer) on 01484 226834. You could also approach the SEND coordinator Mrs Holmes who has responsibility for all children with Additional Needs in the school.  The roles and responsibilities of the SEND coordiantor, the LAB, Head teacher and class teachers are set out in Appendix 2

All staff working with children with SEN will have their training requirements met. We also have many members of staff that are skilled and trained in many areas of SEN including ASD, ADHD, Social & emotional support, speech, language and communication needs.

How do we support transition to Hillside Primary?

If you would like your child to attend our school and you are already aware of their SEND, please arrange a visit to look around the school and ask to meet with the SENCo, at the same time. If you decide that Hillside is the best place for your child, we will plan a series of transition visits and activities to support your child before they start. Every child’s transition will be carefully planned.
